The former power couple of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children together, four of whom were theirs and two were adopted by Jolie. Maddox and his sister Zahara were adopted by Jolie in 2006 from Cambodia and now Maddox is off to college in South Korea. The 18 year old was interviewed on the campus of Yonsei University and had some interesting things to say about his dad, Brad. While claiming his siblings are excited about the fact he is attending college, when asked about his dad coming to visit him, Maddox said “I don’t know about that.” As the interviewer pressed more, Maddox answered, “Whatever happens, happens,” an answer that doesn’t speak of a good relationship with his father. On the positive side, it has been rumored that Brad and Angie are on much better terms now, which is a great thing for all their children. Hopefully the relationship between Brad and Maddox can be repaired as the teenager learns what college life is like abroad. Jolie, for her part, was seen on an Instagram video in tears when she dropped off her son at the school.
A new study from the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) shows that across the top 100 grossing movies from 2007-2018 only three percent of the films featured leads or co-leads with Latino or Latina actors. The study also found that there was a major shortage in Latino / Latina directors and producers. Given that the Latino community represents over 18 percent of the US population and 40 percent of the California population, why are they so under-represented in mainstream Hollywood films? In addition to the under-representation, Latinos are often depicted in roles of violence and hate. It’s something that must change to bring to light the true beauty of the Latino culture and to bring a more balanced understanding of the Latin contribution to the broader American culture.
